About Risser's Beach Provincial Park

Risser's Beach Provincial Park is located in Lunenburg County on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. The park features a long, sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean, backed by salt marshes and forested areas. The geography includes flat coastal plains and tidal wetlands that provide important habitat for various migratory birds and marine life. The park is well known for its warm shallow waters, ideal for swimming and family-friendly beach activities. Ecologically, the salt marshes support robust populations of shorebirds, waterfowl, and other wildlife, making the location a popular destination for birdwatching and nature study. Historically, the area was used by the Mi’kmaq people and later by European settlers primarily for fishing and small-scale farming. Today, the park balances recreational use with conservation, protecting wetlands and coastal ecosystems. Visitors can enjoy camping in the developed campground, swimming, picnicking, hiking on coastal trails, and exploring tidal pools. Risser's Beach Provincial Park also hosts interpretative programs that enrich the visitor experience focusing on coastal ecology and local history. The park’s accessible facilities and tranquil setting make it a favored spot for family outings and quiet retreats close to nature.
